Audi unveils S8 sedan at 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show

Audi used the  Frankfurt Auto Show to unveil its latest version of its high-powered, full-size luxury cruiser, the S8.

2012 Audi S8 sedan

The new range-topper of the Audi S model family,  delivers unparalleled comfort and top level performance. As long as you can afford it, the Kaiser of the Autobahn awaits.

Like the three other ‘S’ models unveiled in Frankfurt, the S8 replaces Audi’s old V10 engine for a newly developed, more efficient 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. It delivers 100 horses more than in the other “S” models,  513 HP, plus 479 lb-ft of torque put to the ground by an eight-speed gearbox and of course, quattro all-wheel drive. That translates to a 0-100 kms/hr time of only 4.2 seconds!

In addition to the fantastic performance, fuel economy was increased with the smaller engine that used cylinder on demand technology as well as Audi’s stop/start technology.

Built largely of lightweight aluminum, the S8 will also offer an Active Noise Cancellation system to suppress “intrusive” noise and vibrations in the cabin, adaptive air suspension, 20-inch wheels, optional carbon fibre-ceramic disc brakes and even four small exterior cameras for a 360 degree view when parking.
