Mercedes Benz launches compact crossover model GLA

Its getting harder for import brands to compete in the compact CUV/SUV market with traditional luxury brands encroaching on their territory. Audi current offers the Q3 and BMW has the X1. Mercedes has launched another option in this competitive segment with the introduction of the all-new Mercedes GLA at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The new GLA will be available in both front wheel and all-wheel-drive versions in Europe. Engine options in Europe include a pair of four cylinder turbo-charged gasoline engines, a 154HP 1.6L or 2.0L producing 208HP. Two diesel options will include a 134HP 1.8L model or a 168HP 2.1L diesel engine.

The curvaceous cute-ute has reportedly tested with a very low drag coefficient of 0.29cd. Combined with a fuel efficient power-plants these little utility haulers should get great fuel economy figures.
Inside the cabin Mercedes has focused on connectivity and entertainment with a large tablet sized screen sitting front and centre between the driver and front passenger.
Although confirmed to be coming to Canada in the fall of 2014 as a 2015 model, no definite plans on what the drive train or pricing options will be.
